"the nicest and the sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens, but just those that bring simple pleasure, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string."

West Coast Martha strikes again...

remember last week when I showed you my thrifty find

here she is
all dolled up
and ready for her close-up!

no sanding, no priming, just a good cleaning with a damp rag.
2 coats of ASC paint in Versailles
light sanding
medium distressing
1 coat of clear paste wax

I have a couple of more little projects to try using the
Annie Sloan Chalk Paint
in a couple of different colours.
can't wait to get busy on them!

joining the party at the WOW

smile at a stranger today, even if it is you..in the mirror.

  1. 1 word describes this work of art.....GORGEOUS!!

  2. this is awesome!!!!!! It looks great

  3. Very Nice Joanne

"smile at a stranger today, even if it is you..in the mirror"

    I like this too :^)

  4. That turned out really cute. I have a couple little projects that I need to get at, too. xo Diana

  5. I think you did a great job, Joanne. Have a wonderful weekend!

  6. That looks great! I love what you did to it. Thanks for stopping by my blog too. I am very grateful for all of your comments. They make me feel so much better mentally. hugs

  7. Love it, Jojo. Great work!!! I wish I was talented like that!!

    God Bless~

  8. Very crafty of you! Funny how when you buy something old, then make it look even older...how cute it turns out!

  9. beautiful job love that purple too. I really like the last line, that smiling at a stranger part. your not getting demented and forgetting who you are, are ya?

  10. That turned out awesome!Love the paint and distressing. I've never used ASC but I've got to give it a whirl. After the clear paste wax layer is that enough to protect the project? Just wondering because I waxed a shelf in a beautiful walnutty brown but never did a top coat of clear. Should I to protect it from wear and tear?

  11. Looks beautiful! Glad to see you are keeping busy :)
Good for the soul and provides us with gorgeous goodies to enjoy! xoxox

  12. That turned out just LOVELY.
I had to laugh at your comment to "smile at a stranger, even if it is yourself in the mirror"
I guess I LIKED that , because there are day's I look at myself in the mirror and ask "WHO ARE YOU?"

  13. Your shelf is gorgeous, I love the color, and the distressing you did, is perfect...hmmm, I'm wondering if I can somehow distress my (naturally distressed), very shabby dining room set, to make it look like that's the way it's suppose to look, instead of just worn and tired...It's a thought!!! I also love your suggestion about smiling at a stranger. Working at a middle school, and especially these first few weeks back. I try to make a lot of eye contact, and smile when I'm in our crowded hallways. So many of the incoming 6th. graders feel lost,(and some are). I try to look friendly, and approachable in case they need some help. Great advice! Take care, Debbie @ Cottage Hann~Me~Downs

  14. HiHo JoJo...it's me Sophie Doodle....Jim and Ron's doggy...thanks for joining my blog....I do enjoy life as you can see with my sojourns on the beach and at the city park. We just returned from Prince Edward Island from a well-needed break from life....enjoy your post above about distressing furniture. My Dad Ron used to manage an art and drafting supply store, so he knows that kinda stuff....Cheers!

  15. Beautiful! What a unique and interesting piece and you made it shine!

  16. I LOVE this shelf!!! You are amazing! What a happy little shelf!

I also like the smile at strangers! I just did a post on Random Acts of Kindness...a smile is just on of those Acts, and a wonderful way to begin! Thanks for the reminder!

Have a wonderful day! Fall is just around the corner! :)
