"the nicest and the sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens, but just those that bring simple pleasure, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string."

Scenes from a vacation....

a week ago we left the rainy, windy, warmth of our abode and drove approximately 400 miles to a quaint little town nestled between the Columbia river and Mt. Hood Oregon.

This little town is a mecca for sailboarders, kayakers, hikers, and relax and watchers.   We have been here many, many times at this time of year and later on in the Summer and it is always a bustling place.  Plus, they have several antique/treasure/consignment shoppes...
The first day we were there we got five inches of snow.  The above pic is of the apple orchards.  I forgot to mention that this area is a huge producer of apples and has several home grown wineries.

The view of the river from our hotel room.  The Mariner Gnome was a guest on our trip...his first foray into the big world...he was not happy.

I also failed to mention that there are several breweries in town.  (Kinda sounds like everyone should be  falling down drunk all the time!  Especially on these hills)
This is the view from the Big Horse Brewery where we ate dinner...we were the only ones there.

We spent an afternoon at the WAAM museum and I can't wait to show you what we found there!

be kind, be safe, remember...you enough.

  1. It looks like you had a wonderful time in spite of the snow. It is always iffy this time of year here, too. The sky is spitting snow here today...but supposed to be up to 50 tomorrow.

Gnome looks like would prefer a warm tree hole to that railing! xo Diana

  2. What a beautiful setting! Even though it snowed, I bet it was good to 'get out of Dodge' for a few days!!! I remember this area when we were out that way a few years ago......so great driving along that river!

  4. Sounds like you had a lovely vacation, Joanne. I love the view of the river. I've never been able to explore the west coast, but would love to. Glad you had a great time and look forward to more beautiful photos.

  5. This sounds like the kind of vacation my husband and I take. What town were you in? We love to visit wineries & brewerys , take quiet walks around the towns, seeing the antique shops, museums, etc. is our favorite way to vacation.

It seems we were in the same neck of the country at about the same time. The weather has been very interesting, hasn't it?
