The duff diaries...part 3...

...baby steps.

I finally got the word from my doctor to start putting weight on my left foot.  S-l-o-w-l-y I am able to stand for a few minutes at a time and over the next few weeks can work up to 10-20 minutes at a time, a few times a day.  Walking unassisted is still a ways off.  Who would have thought a little trip over the garden hose could cause so much misery!

So, the first thing I did was roll myself over to the kitchen window, stood up (I feel so tall!) and stretched and looked outside.  Obviously I have missed Summer and Fall is in full swing with all of its glorious colours.

Then I noticed the dirty kitchen window and felt a little discouraged.  (I like a clean home).

Then I noticed all the leaves that are starting to fall to the ground and felt a little more discouraged. (I like a picked up yard).

Then I smiled and did the happy dance in my head as I remembered I won't be the one who has to rake those leaves or wash those windows.   Always looking for a silver lining here.

  1. One step at a time my dear. Right now your big excitement for the day is going to be LOOKING at things... not DOING things. Got that?
Enjoy the changing scenery and don't worry about the dirty windows. It's all a matter of perspective.
I wish you well and hope that this "first step" is the beginning of a full recovery.

  2. Oh my JoJo.....I'm sorry you are having some difficulty now. I haven't stopped in for a while and had no idea you had injured yourself in a fall. Hopefully you are on the mend....I know that injury can take a while to heal...so take care of yourself and enjoy that beautiful autumn weather in Oregon.

    xo

  4. So glad you see the silver lining. Next year feel free to stop by and rake my leaves. I'm seeing the neighbors yards filling up and know our yard will be covered soon.

    Glad you are making progress.

  5. Girl were we twins separated at birth or what? It ain't never enuf is it! Get a bit better and see what all isn't done yep that would be me. I'm fighting sleep right now. I've been doing too much and I am just tired!
The question is push more or give in and i think giving in sounds pretty good. FALLING is never good so stay away from those slippery leaves and ladders and any other thing that could result in more injury. You've only got one foot left! OR is it right?

  7. isn't cool that you won't have to be the one to do the raking or the cleaning of the window? I am sooooo glad that you can finally put some weight on that leg. I do hope you continue to heal beautifully and will soon be up and around like normal!!!

  8. I think, in my life, I am grateful for my high clutter tolerance. But you found the silver lining for sure, that someone else will be raking and cleaning for a while yet.

May you continue to heal faster and faster. The baby steps of walking feel like more than little steps, though, don't they? You can focus now in getting stronger and stronger. It's lying around that makes me nuts.

Oh. Wait. I'm nuts to begin with...

    Good thoughts your way.

  9. I'm not in the loop but sounds like you are recovering from a nasty fall.
So sorry to hear it. As you are forced to slow down...or even stop, do all the things you never have the time for, heal the body and soul.

  10. Hey Jojo, a good start! You've been through an ordeal. But I sense you can see that proverbial light at the end of the tunnel.
Speaking of yard work.....I must get my butt out there.

  14. oh no... you hurt your foot after tripping over a garden hose.
It seems the older I get, the more clumsy and off balanced I get.
    I scare myself (tee,hee)
I hope you are able to recover soon....as you got windows to wash, and leaves to rake.
    Oh wait
you're going to get someone else to do that for now. Smart Girl.

I love walking through the fall leaves, I love the sound of their crunch.
    take care ok

  18. Oh, JoJo...I've been out for a while and missed the memo to bring you flowers and chicken soup!

I hope you're finally on the mend now, and can get back soon to your daily activites, which should NOT include cleaning windows or raking the yard...or watering with a garden hose, either!

Take good care, dear one. You're in my thoughts.
