"the nicest and the sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens, but just those that bring simple pleasure, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string."

tid-bits du jour.....

courtesy KIRO

I think that this may possibly be the most beautiful photo of my city that I've ever seen.  And waaaay back there at the foothills of that mountain is where I live.  beautiful, yes, but we are paying a price for these lovely days.  It's been fifteen days with temps over 90 degrees and we are not used to such heat, all the trees and forest are afire, the air is heavy with smog and dirt, and everyone is cranky!  All the gardens and lawns are burnt to a lovely crispiness, veggies shriveled up, water restrictions and such.  I know many of you live like this every summer but it is such an anomaly here that no one is quite sure how to handle it.  There is a heat warning and people of certain ages me or who have health conditions me  are to stay indoors, near a fan and drink water all day.  Complaining, well, not much but it is a little overwhelming.

It sure has been quiet around blogland lately.  Has everyone gone to FB or are they all on vacation?  I know I haven't had much to share.  That doesn't mean I don't have a lot to say mind you, but I'm a part of a group of 'over-sharers' and trying to be more careful!  Oh, how I wish I could post some photos of my grands and tell you their stories but I made a promise...all I can say is they are well and enjoying this wonderful (if you are a kid) weather.  They both love the water so you know what they are doing all day!!

In just a few weeks we will be wrapping up the year of the 60/40.  It's gone too fast of course and we are hoping to get another adventure in the books before then.   But you know, every time we leave the house it's an adventure...take care all and have a safe summer.

  2. We're frying in the High Desert too, Joanne. It gives me an excuse to stay inside and leisurely read a book with no guilt!

  4. Yes, what is 60/40? Blogger won't let me see it either.
I know what the heat does to us here in California but we expect it in the summer. You, on the other hand, don't. The hight temps must be awful and all the fires too. Maybe you need a trip to the ocean or up to BC. Hope the heat breaks soon. Take care of yourself.

  6. It's been a cool, wet summer here in Ohio. I guess we have your weather! I hope it breaks soon and you're back to normal stuff. It's hard on the environment when all that goes down. Take care Jo!

  7. Hey there..I've decided I need to get back to reading blogs, because that's how I met all you wonderful people. What a gorgeous photo and I didn't know you lived on a mountain! Our weather has been unusual this summer and we are also in drought conditions. Had a good hard rain the other day, so hope it helps! Now I'm also curious about 60/40!
