"the nicest and the sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens, but just those that bring simple pleasure, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string."

Monday snap...the 60/40~~~

my hubby and I recently 'dubbed' this year of our lives as the "60/40."   It's one of those types of celebrations that are once in a lifetime, well, I guess most are, but we decided this was our defining moment.  Both of us turned the big 6-0 this past summer and come November we will be blissfully wed a big 4-0 years.  Gaw, that's a long time!  We have known each other 41 years of which that anniversary fell during our stint with the blizzard.  More to come on that.  Here's just a hint of what we saw as we started our trip.  It was a Sunday a few weeks ago and we headed up to the pass, which is about twenty minutes from our home.  It was rainy at home but we didn't expect any trouble.  This is one of the lowest mountain passes in elevation...no need to be concerned.  We headed to our first stop, Starbucks.  I had a coupon for $10 and was planning to get two grande drinks to go.  Great way to start a vacay right?  Well the coupon would not scan.  Should we have been concerned?  Was this some type of omen?  When we got to the pass this is what we saw...

out the windshield, Chinook Pass 9/13

these are literally the first two pictures I took on our official vacation.  A vacation we had planned months in advance and had to reschedule twice due to my emergency surgeries and a long summer recuperating.  The vacation that was going to take us to several National Parks including Mt. Rainier, Glacier, The Badlands and Mt. Rushmore.  Oh yeah, this was reason for concern...we just didn't know it yet!

Chinook Pass

  1. how lovely!!! 40 years married and 41 years together! What a beautiful thing! With how quickly marriages dissolve these days, it is nice to read about a friend who has lasted the test through time. Beautiful pictures despite the white stuff around them!!!!!

  2. I remember my days in WA. going to Snoqualmie Pass for skiing. Fun times but, don't miss the snow.

  3. Wow, crazy weather. Is that a random storm or do you usually get that kind of weather this early??
    Congratulations on the 60/40 milestones

  4. Oh gosh. So sorry to hear this. ♥
I think we have been in Chinook Pass...
My hubby doesn't turn 60 until next year. We celebrate 40 next year. I was 60 last year. ;-)
Happy Birthday and Congratulations! Here's to many more. :-)

  5. OMGOSH! THAT is ALL you needed, Joanne! You poor girl. This has been quite a year for you. Now pass along the rest of that information about your trip-xo Diana

  6. First, congrats on the bdays and the anniversary! Second, Holy Smokes...you must have had a crazy time..I heard about the blizzard in S. Dakota and to top it off...the closing of National Parks due to our crazy politicians acting like babies. I can't wait for the rest of your story Jo!

  7. Looks like you reached some mile markers...both metaphorically and physically! Congrats on your 60/40! Sorry you ran into snow...how depressing; but hey, your pictures are pretty!

  8. What a suspenseful start to your story! Will they make it over the pass?
Will the Starbucks percolate through before they can reach a rest stop? Will Joanne and her sweetie get to see any national parks? Waiting breathlessly for the next installment!

  9. Unbelievable! They say 'everything happens for a reason'. It will be interesting to figure out the reason for this!!
Hope you got your 'grande drinks' anyway.
I like your 60/40 idea.....you two were 'children' when you met!

  10. SNOW!!! :) Love the pictures.
