"the nicest and the sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens, but just those that bring simple pleasure, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string."

THIS is the face of 60...

...freshly scrubbed
freckled-face
apple cheeked
red-headed with a touch of white.

when did I become this woman.
with
my mother's hands
my father's crooked smile
and
strong features
except for the lips
where did they go?

I am not upset
that I have become
'me'
for all the choices
I have made in my life
have brought me to
this point.
and all the adventures
that are
waiting for me
are only dreams waiting to be
fulfilled.

as I choose
my words
carefully;
I bid a fond farewell
to the decade of my
50's.
the decade whose
many memories are
wrought
with illness and grief,
the most difficult times of my life.
I would give it all again to see
those children of mine wed
and make me a
grandma times two!

fare thee well
and
moving forward  to many
new adventures
and the
time
of my life.
Happy Birthday to me.

  3. Happy Birthday Joanne, I hope this coming year brings you much happiness, and better health! You sure don't look 60, that's for sure, if I saw you on the street I might think 40's!!! I looove your hair color, I see where your Grandson got his! I hope you're getting stronger day by day, and well enough to do something special for your birthday...Just sitting outside with the warmth of the sun, (haven't we been blessed with this weather), and a gentle breeze rustling in your hair would be nice!!! Have a great day, no matter what you choose to do, and EAT CAKE!!!! xo Debbie (the one on the other side of the Emerald City)!!!

  5. Happy 60!!!! YES! What a wonderful and positive outlook, Joanne! I have 5 years on you and let me tell you the 60's are pretty good! Things are easier to understand for some strange reason and not so complicated!

  6. I think you are lovely as ever. My neighbor is 55 and only has months to live. Another friend, same thing. I'll be 55 in December and I'm just so thankful to be alive. Knowing I've lived more than half my life is a little sad because I love living so much. Still...can't help but think how much I have to be grateful for. Still hoping for more grandchildren...we still have only one and she will be 11 in November. Would love to hear and see little ones about again...

Blessings to you friend...and big happy birthday kisses and hugs.

    Love, Rebecca

    1. Thanks Linda, except for a little mascara and lip gloss I really don't bother with the make-up anymore. Just a little sunscreen is about it. Are you counting down the days to Paris?

  8. Oh- Joanne- You are just beautiful. You don't look 60 at all. And, looking at your face, you would never know the medical traumas you went through in the past few years. You still have a "baby" face! Happy, Happy Birthday to you, my friend! You will LOVE your 60's...and I hope they are a whole lot better than your 50's were health-wise! xo Diana

  13. Hey there--thanks for checking in on me! And--HAPPY BIRTHDAY, friend! 60 looks great on you---your skin looks so soft and pretty! I slid into 63 last November, and before long, Lord willing---64 will be here. Some years great---some pretty awful---still thankful to be here. My lips have nearly vanished, too, but I'll stick with these instead of the "duck-lips" in movieland, huh. Celebrate this year...it'll be gone before we know it! ;)
