"the nicest and the sweetest days are not those on which anything very splendid or wonderful or exciting happens, but just those that bring simple pleasure, following one another softly, like pearls slipping off a string."

a post...

...just because it's Leap Day and I won't be able to do another like if for four years.

A quick update on the sweet Gracie dog;

she went to the vet yesterday for lab work and another round of abdominal drainage.
lab work normal (?)
9 liters of fluid removed from her abdomen
that's twenty pounds
still working with the diagnosis of liver cancer
will go back in in 21 days for another drainage
vet admitted that her time is quite short---a few months at most
a few weeks perhaps
she was acting like her old self after the first drainage
but increasingly it is taking a toll on her.
today she is some where else...dreaming of home perhaps.

  3. We went through that with our former dog, Jessie for two years. It wasn't liver cancer but brain cancer. You are doing what is best for Gracie and yourselves right now. Give her a gentle hug from us and Sophie. I agree with MPM above she will let you know.

  5. I told you on the phone the other night that Gracie would let you know when it is time to go. In the meantime, make lots of memories, take pics and talk to her. She knows she can't get up and be the dog she used to be but her next best skill is listening to her hooman parents. I tell Colin everything and pray the Dog Whisperer doesn't have a friend name Dog Talker who will come to our house and teach Colin to talk...I will be screwed! Hugs to you and much hugs to your precious Gracie. This just breaks-my-heart. I like animals better than most humans. Call me anytime...I'm 24/7 to you.

  6. I'm so sorry your dog Gracie is sick. It's the saddest part of being a pet owner when it's time for them to leave. I hope she's comfortable and I can tell she's much loved by you.

  7. I'm so sorry. Love is forever - sickness and health - and that's just as true with our furry kids when we care for them when they are sick. Thank you for sharing.

  8. That is sad to see the life of your sweet pet dwindle away.
We had a cocker spanial once who became very sick, and we too had to watch her "last days, hours"
She actually died in my arms. I just sat there and held her.
Our pets are MORE then just a pet.
    They are very loved !!!

  9. Saying goodbye to such a loyal friend is exquisitely heartwrenching. We measure the depth of our love by the pain we experience. Be kind to your puppy, make her days comfortable and full of your love. Know you've been as good a friend to her as she has to you. Many prayers for you.

  10. Rasmus died of cancer. I hope and pray that Gracie just passes away at home with you in her sleep. God if we could ease this heart break it is so painful to lose a dog. No one knows unless they have been there. Prayers for you and your best friend.
